where character counts and integrity is the keystone

Robert & his Adventures

Robert Langdon the main character of Dan Brown’s works seems more to me like a person looking for religion then a symbologist.

When we look at his experience with the well & his constant need for evidence or proof; it appears to me that he is trying in some cerebral way to come to terms that there is a god in heaven. This seems to be one of the central themes to Robert’s life.

With the experince in the well, treading water for hours, we can surmise that he was quite religious as a boy & this experience caused him to question his faith. Which, he seems to wrestle with throughout the books.

With the well in mind, we can presume that he started the study of symbology and archaic things. This is fueled by questioning faith and a real desire to know the truth. The trouble it appears is that he can’t feel the truth.

Robert Langdon the symbologist can’t find god in the anchient symbols and texts because as The Lost Symbol points out god can only be found through the study of sacred word & self evaluation. While, I believe in specifics about god because of my religion; I still believe that all peoples actually worship the same god but call him different names.
